Aims & Objectives of Environmental Club (PUCEN): PUCEN means the Pachhunga University College Environmental Club
- To promote and uphold the mission, objectives and welfare of the College
- To create scientific temper, awareness, knowledge, attitudes, skills and participation among the students and community
- To educate the students and communities about the environmental issues and responsibilities of the life long relationship with the Nature
- To create and maintain awareness of environmental responsibilities to provide strong support and service to the College
- To keep alive the spirit of public service and self-sacrifice for the welfare of the society and nature
- To foster and promote goodwill through loving, conserving and protecting wildlife and natural heritage of Mizoram
- To foster and promote goodwill through mutual trust, respect and collaboration among the members of the club.
Department of Environmental Science, Pachhunga University College, Aizawl has formed the Environmental Club on 16th September 2014 in the occasion of Ozone World Day at Seminar Hall, Life Science Building in the presence of Prof. JV Hluna, Vice Principal, Pachhunga Univertsity College, Aizawl. All students (I, III & V semester) faculty & staffs participated in this programme and unanimously the Environmental Club is being formed. The Draft Constitution of Environmental Club (PUCEN) is prepared and presented by Dr. Kulendra C. Das before the house of the meeting. According to the house an environmental club will be headed by coordinator. Environmental club consists of One General Secretary, one Secretary, one Treasurer, executive members and general members respectively. On the same day, Dr. Kulendra C. Das, Assistant Professor was selected as a coordinator, Dr. Lallawmkimi, Assistant Professor, as an assistant coordinator, Mr. JC Zirthangmawia, (EVS-V Semester student) as General Secretary, Ms HB. Ramengmawii (EVS-V Semester student) as Secretary and Ms Lalzirzeli (EVS-V Semester student) as Treasurer and all other EVS-V Semester students are selected as Executive Members and I &III Semesters students are general members of the environmental Club. Persons like teachers become and remain life members with voting privilege by paying a fee of rupees five hundred.
(PUCEN) ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB AT COMMUNITY LEVEL:
PUCEN is an Environmental Club of Pachhunga University College, Mizoram University, Aizawl, Mizoram. The main goal and aim of this club is to promote the environmental education and awareness at community level as well as institutional level for creating the sense of value and protecting environment. To reach and connect mass people unit of PUCEN will be constituted in each interested community level. Eighteen members PUCEN Unit at Village Level (Muallungthu Village) Committee is being formed on 14th March, 2015. The following five posts and 13 executive members are selected in this programme. A total of 38 participants have taken part in this awareness programme. The detail information are recorded in register of the club and extension activities report.

Activities of PUCEN during 2017-2018 :
1. On 21st August, 2017, PUCEN conducted an awareness programme in Govt. Venghlui Middle School and formed a unit of (PUCEN) Environmental Club, consisting of 11 members including the teachers and students of the school for the furtherance of our cause and for them to help in the sensitization of people for the promotion of a healthy environment.
2. On 25th August, PUCEN conducted an awareness campaign in New Dawn School, ITI and had a very productive interaction with the students and teachers. The awareness campaign was based on Ozone layer depletion, cleanliness, air pollution, water pollution, etc. and formed a new unit of PUCEN.
3. On 24th April, 2018, the Eco-Club, PUCEN celebrated ‘Earth Day’ in the Seminar Hall, Department of Environmental Science. All the students and faculty members were present in this programme.
4. Based on ‘Earth Day’ a quiz competition was organized by the Eco-Club.
5. Cleanliness Drive was held on 19th May, 2018 at the PUC Campus by the Department of Environmental Science (PUCEN)under the theme, ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ as a commemoration of World Environment Day.
6. Apart from these, a new club t-shirt was made and we also won the title of ‘Best Eco-Club (2018)’ over the other Eco-clubs of different colleges.
Activities of PUCEN during 2018-2019 Session:
1. On the occasion of World Ozone day, a seminar on ‘Preservation of Ozone layer; Issues and Challenges’ was organized by the PUCEN at Seminar Hall on 20th September 2018. All the students and faculty of the department attended theprogramme and actively participated in this seminar. The important points on the topic was raised and discussed in this seminar. The teachers and the students took a pledge towards saving the Ozone layer. The certificate was given to the participants and resource person.
2. As a part of Diamond Jubilee Celebration of our College, a special cleanliness drive onTlawng river was carried out atSairang on 2nd October 2018. All members of Eco-club including the Faculties of the Department of Environmental Science participated in this. The members were divided into three groups who were all made to collect waste from the river bank and put them into garbage bags and send them to the disposal site.
3. On 15th April 2019, a school level awareness programme was held in Govt. Bethlehem Vengthlang High School. The awareness campaign was based on the topic of Water Conservation which was organized by the 6th semester students, Dept. of Environmental Science on behalf of PUCEN. The students were divided into three groups and given one hour each to talk about the importance of water, how to conserve it and how to manage it. A poster showing the importance of water was also displayed at this program.
4. On 22nd April 2019, the Eco-club celebrated ‘Earth Day’ at departmental seminar hall. All the second, fourth and sixth semester students including faculty members participated in this programme. Our respected HOD Dr. K. Khelchandra Singh gave an important presentation about the present condition of the Earth.
5. On May 22nd 2019, the observation of Biodiversity Day and a Tree Plantation Campaign was held in the Departmental Seminar Hall. The students and faculty participated in these programmes. On this day the students brought small saplings for plantation. After the programme was over, plantation of the trees was held in the campus which was led by our respected HOD and faculties.
Activities of ECO-CLUB during 2019-2020:
- All Executive Members and Office Bearers have taken responsibility for spreading the iconic message of Eco-club of PUCEN by wearing the Eco-club T-Shirt while conducting any Eco Club activity anywhere. The first activity of Eco Club about environmental awareness programme was conducted at Govt. Venghlui Middle School on 6th September, 2019, and formed a unit of (ECOCLUB) environmental club, consisting of 13 members including the teachers and Office-Bearers along with the students of the school for the furtherance of our cause and for them to help in the sensitization of people for the promotion of a healthy environment.
- On 13th September 2019, Eco-club conducted a cleanliness drive at PUC campus where all the members of the Club joined hands to clean the different sites of
PUC campus. - On 6th February 2020, Eco-club conducted another awareness campaign at Holy Trinity School, ITI where we had a productive interactive session with the students of 3 different classes (V, VI& VII) with different topics like Plastic Pollution, Water Conservation, Waste Management and Environmental Management.
- On 13th March, 2020, Eco Club replaced the old environment related posters and paintings from the Wall magazine and each Semester of the Dept. of Environmental Science contributed new posters and paintings to be put up on the Wall Magazine.
- Due to the lockdown imposed in Mizoram on the month of March because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Eco Club couldn’t practically carry out community awareness programmes on ‘Protection of Wildlife and Environment’. Instead Eco Club opted for Questionnaire method from which we obtain necessary information from the respondents.
Activities of ECOCLUB during 2020-2021:
- Due to the lockdown imposed in Mizoram due to the Covid-19 pandemic, ECOCLUB couldn’t practically carry out offline activities. Our first activity was painting competition which was held monthly and also get good reviews. We made our first Instagram account which is handled by our General Secretary.
- On 25th September2020, we organized online seminar on Ozone Depletion which was attended by more than 90 students. Our head of department Dr KK Singh delivered a speech. On 8th October 2020,another online seminar on Solid Waste Management:Issues and Challenges was held through google meet , where our Asst Coordinator Dr Subasish Das delivered the speech.
- On 9thApril 2021, the 6th semester students make the Eco Club wall near the college entrance which couldn’t be completed due the lockdown imposed. On World Biodiversity Day 2021, an online webinar was held, attended by more than 80 students and teachers. Our Coordinator, Asst Coordinator and HoD delivered a short speech. On 23rd May, 2021,World Turtle Day was organised to know more about the turtle species in Mizoram.
- On 5th June, 2021, the faculties of Environmental Science Department along with the Principal organized Tree Plantation on behalf of World Environment Day. A webinar was organized on the same day in collaboration with GSC EcoClub and Ripans.
