About the Program
DBT Star College Scheme for Undergraduate Level is an opportunity offered by the Deaprtment of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India to undergraduate students. The program emphasizes holistic improvement of science education at the undergraduate level with special emphasis on practical training for students.
Pachhunga University College is also supported by this scheme first in 2012-15 and from 2019 till today. There are four departments - Botany, Chemistry, Physics and Zoology under the support of the scheme. The college has benifitted from this scheme, plays an important role in NAAC A+ grading of the College. Through this support various activities are conducted to imporve the science education in the college and the State. The College have a positive grouwth under the mentorship and guidance of the DBT and also acknowledge the controbution of the DBT to the grouth of Science and Technology in the College.

Summary Activities report of the department of Botany
Departmental coordinator: Dr. H Lalruatsanga, Associate Professor, Botany
The Department of Botany: During 2019-2022 could organize four Invited lecture with experts Prof. GD Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Bilaspur University, Chhattisgarh, Faculties of Mizoram University and faculty of National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM)-Sonipat, Haryana . The department also organized exposure programme to Dampa Tiger Reserve, Mizoram and Industrial Visit. The department could conduct twelve (12) students’ hands of project and one entrepreneurship training. They also perform 5 new experiments with support from the scheme. All equipment’s are successfully purchased.
Student progress is good with 77.45% of student joining Post Graduate studies. The average pass percentage of the department during the support 2019-2022 is 94.95 %, with all students passing above first division. During the report period the department have 3 subject topper in the university and 28 university subject rank holders which 70 % of all subject rank holders in the University.
Summary of Report -Department of Chemistry
Departmental Coordinator: Dr. K Vanlaldinpuia, Assistant Professor, Chemistry
During 2019-2022 could organize one Winter School, nine Invited lecture with experts Cambridge University, Faculties of Mizoram University, Alumni, and faculty of Indian Institute of Technology(IIT). The department also organized student exposure programme toDepartment of Pharmacy, Regional Institute of Para Medical and Nursing Institute(RIPANS) and State Forensics Laboratory, Aizawl . The department could conduct nine (9) students’ hands of project and one entrepreneurship training. They also perform 6 new experiments with support from the scheme. The department organize Alumni interactions, career guidance, one workshop and one outreach programme with higher Secondary School students. All equipment’s are successfully purchased.
Student progress is good with 58.6 % of student joining Post Graduate studies. The average pass percentage of the department during the support 2019-2022 is 86.65 %, with all students passing above first division. During the report period the department have 3 subject topper in the university and 27university subject rank holders which69 % of all subject rank holders in the University. The Department have established and improve overall laboratory facilities using DBT-Star College Scheme.
Summary of report of Department of Physics
Departmental Coordinator: Dr. Lalhriatzuala, Associate Professor, Physics
The department of Physics 6 invited lectures (Online and offline), One online workshop and one alumni interactions. The experts from Dept. of Information Technology, Mizoram University, Institute of Nanoscience and Technology (INST), Mohali, Punjab, Dept. of Physics, Mizoram University, IIT Bombay. The department could conduct 6 students’ hands of project with each faculty as mentors. They also perform 18 new experiments with support from the scheme. The department organize Alumni interactions, career guidance and one workshop. All equipment’s are successfully purchased. The department also organized student exposure programme to Serlui B Hydel Project Site at Kolasib District, Mizoram.
Student progress is good with 63.95 % of student joining Post Graduate studies. The average pass percentage of the department during the support 2019-2022 is 83.75 %, with all students passing above first division. During the report period the department have 4 subject topper in the university and 30 university subject rank holders which 75 % of all subject rank holders in the University. The Department have established and improve overall laboratory facilities using DBT-Star College Scheme.
Summary of report of Department of Zoology
Departmental Coordinator: Dr. Laldinsangi, Assistant Professor, Zoology
During 2019-2022 could organize one workshop, Five Invited lecture with experts from Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Osmania Univ. Hyderabad, Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Jadavpur, Kolkata and Mizoram University.
The department also organized two student exposure programme to Tamdil Wetlands and Phawngpui National Park. The department could conduct four (4) students’ hands of project and one hands on training. The department organize two outreach programme with high School students from rural areas.. All equipment’s are successfully purchased.
Student progress is good with 68.9 % of student joining Post Graduate studies. The average pass percentage of the department during the support 2019-2022 is 92.46%, with all students passing above first division. During the report period the department have 3 subject topper in the university and 27 university subject rank holders which 82.5 % of all subject rank holders in the University. The Department have established and improve overall laboratory facilities using DBT-Star College Scheme.
