Mizo Cultural Studies and Performing Arts

   Mizo Cultural Studies and Performing Arts is an academic branch of the college, a centre which was established to to educate the importance of the ethnicity, culture, traditional dances as well as artefacts of Mizoram among the youths and the rising generations. The Centre conducts Certificate course in Mizo Cultural Studies and Performing Arts was inaugurated on 16th October, 2017 by the then Art & Culture Minister, Pu R. Romawia at College Seminar Hall in the presence of Dr. Tawnenga, Principal, PUC and Mr. R. Hmingthanzuala, Director, Art & Culture department. The course is jointly conducted by the Department of Mizo, Pachhunga University College and Art and Culture Department, Govt. of Mizoram and it is approved by Mizoram University. Any students from the college can apply this course. Six years MoU was signed between Art & Culture department and Mizo Department, PUC. Theory classes are taught by Mizo department faculty while practical classes are taught by Art & Culture Department instructors.

Aims & Objectives:

(a) To teach traditional Mizo dance and music.

(b) To impart Mizo culture and tradition

(c) Preserving and enhancing Mizo culture, dance, and music

Certification:

1. First batch (2017 - 2018) - 26 successfully finished the course.
2. Second batch (2018-2019) - 22 successfully finished the course
3. Third batch (2019-2020) - 23 students registered
4. Fourth batch (2021-2022) - 21 (on going)

National Participation:

1. Participated on ‘Loka - Many Voices’ (An Ethnic Festival) on 4-7 November, 2017 at Purulia, West Bengal. Organised by Sahitya Akademi, Regional Office Kolkata.
2. Participated on ‘All India National Mime Festival’ on 8-16 February, 2019 at Kanglei Mime Theatre, Imphal, Manipur. Organised by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.
3. Participated on ‘National Mime Festival’ on December 7-12, 2019 at Rupa, Arunachal Pradesh. Organised by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.

Activity:

Mizo Culture Studies and Performing Arts, Pachhunga University College launched a Mizo nursery rhyme  video, it can be watched on PUC official youtube channel.
