International Conference on Advances in Biological Sciences (ICABS-2025)
The International Conference on Advances in Biological Sciences (ICABS), organised by the School of Life Sciences, Pachhunga University College on February 6th-7th, 2025 marked the first event of its kind for the academic year 2025. It envisioned to congregate and provide a prime opportunity for the world’s leading scientists and participants to share cutting-edge research, exchange knowledge, and forge new collaborations in the realm of biological sciences. This interdisciplinary event encompassed diverse themes in the field of biological sciences including climate change, genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, genome editing, biodiversity, nanotechnology, microbiology, and other related topics and showcased significant research advancements and achievements in the various domains by utilizing modern molecular approaches.
The conference was funded by Mizoram University with the organizing committee comprising Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, Vice Chancellor, Mizoram University (Chief Patron), Prof. G. Guru Subramanian, Dean, School of Life Sciences, Mizoram University (Patron), Prof. H. Lalthanzara, Principal, Pachhunga University College (Patron), Prof. H. Lalruatsanga, Head, Department of Life Sciences, Pachhunga University College (Patron), Prof. Lalramliana, Head, Department of Zoology (Convener), Prof. K. Lalchhandama, Department of Zoology (Co-convener), Dr. Vanlalhruaii Ralte, Head, Department of Botany (Co-convener), and Dr. Zothanpuia, Head, Department of Biotechnology (Co-convener). Further, Dr. Bendangchuchang Longchar, Assistant Professor, Department of Life Sciences and Dr. Prashant Kumar Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology served as the Organizing Secretaries while, Dr. Liansangmawii Chhakchhuak, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology acted as the Treasurer for the event.
The two-day event was conducted in a hybrid format which enabled a diverse participation in both offline and online modes, due to greater accessibility despite geographical barriers. The programme successfully hosted 18 nationally and 4 internationally renowned invited guest speakers, whose expertise in various fields conferred an enlightening experience. It featured plenary and keynote sessions from eminent scientists like Prof. H.T. Lalremsanga and Prof. Kishore C.S. Panigrahi, whose talks on topics such as Developmental Biology, Biodiversity, and Plant Developmental Biology were deeply engaging and insightful. Their expertise and perspectives not only enhanced the academic quality of the event but also inspired the next generation of scientists. The conference also saw the participation of a wide range of attendees, including students, research scholars, and academicians with 45 presentations addressing major challenges, innovative solutions, and technological breakthroughs impacting environment, climate, biodiversity, and human health. This demonstrated the growing impact of technology in biological sciences, paving the way for new advances in medicine, agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and environmental protection. These interactive sessions and subsequent feedback from peers and experts allowed deeper understanding of the pressing issues.
The successful completion of ICABS marked a significant milestone in the field of biological sciences. It achieved its primary objectives of fostering scientific dialogue, encouraging collaboration, and promoting interdisciplinary innovative research solutions for global challenges. With the enthusiastic participation and zeal of all the presenters and attendees, this conference created an environment of knowledge exchange, which is essential for tackling concerns in biology. We expect that this conference will play an impactful and pivotal role for new collaborations with mutual benefit and help define areas to ensure sustainable development in the future.
Lastly, the conference not only proved to be a vital gathering for the scientific community but also exposed participants to the rich cultural heritage of Aizawl, Mizoram. This exchange of ideas in both academic and cultural contexts added to the overall success of the event, creating a memorable experience for everyone involved.
