GOVERNOR GRACES FRESHERS' SOCIAL AND FELICITATION PROGRAMME OF PACHHUNGA UNIVERSITY COLLEGE
The hon'ble Governor of Mizoram, Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, who is also the Chief Rector of Mizoram University, graced the Freshers' Social and Felicitation programme as the Chief Guest at Pachhunga University College today. Prof Dibakar Chandra Deka, Vice Chancellor, Mizoram University was the Guest of Honour.
Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati in his opening remarks congratulated NIRF Ranked 34th college, Pachhunga University College on its success. He congratulated the newly admitted students on their admission to a prestigious college and encouraged them to have ambition and dreams to achieve their goals. He also congratulated the graduates and the award winners and said that they have a bright future ahead of them and reminded them of their immense potential for the growth and progress of both Mizoram and India.
The Governor said that Mizo youth are fluent in English and have the required ingredients for success. He urged them to try to find out the needs of the country's development and to think about how they would turn their ideas into reality. He spoke about the two upcoming major development projects – The railway line and KMMTTP. He also told them that the commissioning of these projects in the very near future is imminent. In this connection, the Governor threw a challenge to Mizo youths to prepare themselves to become key players, employees and owners of these development projects when these projects finally come into operation.
He also explained how the New Education Policy (2020) has introduced a new education system to promote skill development and entrepreneurship for the development of students. He urged the students to be more curious about this and to be aware that MZU Innovation Hub is available for all interested and keen students who want to become entrepreneurs. The Governor also explained to the students that many central welfare schemes and social security schemes are available for the beneficiaries but that few people in the state, even among the elites in the society, are aware of it. He spoke of the need for more effort on mass education and awareness. In this connection, he appealed to the students to take interest in these schemes and to become campaigners for the benefit of the large population in the state who are yet to avail such schemes.
Guest of Honour, Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, Vice Chancellor, MZU and PUC Principal, Prof. H. Lalthanzara were the other speakers.
Department wise top 10 candidates of the MZU undergraduate examination 2023 were awarded certificates and cash prizes. As shown below, Proficiency Awards were presented to the best performers in the various streams.

2. Khawtinkhuma Award (topper in Commerce stream): Lalrinzuali, Department of Commerce
3. HK Bawichhuaka Award (topper in Arts stream): Lalduhsaki, Department of History
4. A. Sawihlira Award (topper in Management stream): Esther Zonunsangi, Department of Management
5. Dr. H. Lallungmuana Award (Institution topper): Jeffrey Vanlaltlana, Department of Biotechnology
C.Biakthansanga received the Student of the Year award from the Governor.
This year, 914 students from PUC in various UG streams sat for the final semester examination, of which 822 passed with a pass percentage of 89.93%. There are 152 rank holders (top 10) in various departments. The percentage of rank holders under MZU is 59.84%. PUC has 16 toppers from 16 departments. This is 59.25% of the toppers under MZU.
PUC currently offers 23 UG courses and 5 PG courses. The total number of students this year is 3227. 935 new students have been admitted and admission for CUET students is being conducted.
