One day State Level symposium
5th October 2011, PUC: Brief Report On One day State Level symposium : RECENT TRENDS AND DEVELOPMENTS OF RADIATIONS & ITS APPLICATIONS: The first state level Symposium on Recent Trends And Developments Of Radiations & Its Applications was conducted on 5th October, 2011 at the premises of Students Recreation Hall, Pachhunga University College at 9.00 am. Registration of the symposium starts from 9.00 am to 10.00am. There are twenty one participants from the research students and faculties from the various parts of Mizoram. Out of these participants twelve from the faculties and research scholars from the Pachhunga University College and the rests are from the Mizoram University, Lunglei Govt. College, Lunglei, Govt. Zirtiri Residential Science College, Aizawl and Champhai College, Champhai. The inauguration session of the symposium was started at 10.00 am under the Chief Guest Dr. Tawnega, Principal Pachhunga University College, Aizawl. He also announced inauguration of the symposium. Just after the inauguration function the first technical session was started at 10.45 am chaired by Dr. Sivraj Gurung, Asst. Prof. Department of Physics, Pachhunga University College. In the first session there were five invited lectures on various fields. Dr. R.C. Tiwari, Head, department of Physics, Mizoram University gave the key Note Address of the function. His address covered overall application and some basic concepts of radioisotope. He also included the recent research going on in various Universities and institutes in India and aboard. Just after the Key Note address Dr. Th. Robert, Asst.Prof. Department of Biotechnology Mizoram University gave the past and present scenario of research and products in biotechnology by using radioactivities. His lectures enlighten the scopes and application of radioisotopes for analysis and plant production. After his invited lecture, Dr. B. Zoliana, Asst. Prof. Department of Physics, Govt. Zitri College was given very interesting short lectures on imaging techniques of radioisotopes in medical applications. He showed the advantages of radioisotopes over the conventional techniques used in therapy. Mr. Larinthara, Asst. Prof. Department of Physics,PUC gave the different techniques used for radiationdetections. He was highlited different radiation detectors like, GM Counter, Ionisation Chamber, Scintillation detector, etc. At the end of the first technical session, Dr. Lan_, Asst. Prof. Departmet of Zoology, PUC highlits how radiations can be used in the study of biological sciences. His presentation is one of the most exciting presentations, he gave a lot of models for analyzing and findings with radioisotopes. In all the session, there are five minute discussions, those discussions gave new test of the symposium. After his lecture, the first technical session was dissolved at 1.30am The second technical session was started just after the lunch at 2.00pm chaired by Dr. B. Zoliana. There were four invited speakers in this session. Dr. Ssh. Birla Sing , Asst. Prof. Department of Zoology, PUC gave the cancer treatment and applications in cancer therapy by using radioactive nuclei. His lecture showed the advantages of radioactive nuclei for cancer detection and treatment over the conventional techniques. He also highlighted the future vision of the radiation isotopes in the radiation therapy. After his interesting lectures, three lectures given by Mr. Lalhriatzuala, Asst. Prof. Department of Physics, PUC; Dr. S.S. Singh and Dr. Rajesh Kumar of Department of Mathematic, PUC gave interesting techniques the basic models to solve and find out the half-lifes and determination of magic numbers of radioactive nuclei. Their techniques to solve the certain mathematical techniques will helps for the further understanding of such systems. The second session end at 3.30pm. The valedictory function of the symposium was conducted under the chef guest of Dr. C. Lalramwana, Vice Principal Pachhunga University College Aizawlat 3.35 pm. In the valedictory function was multi functions along with certificate distributions of the invited speakers and the participants. The function ends with high tea at 4.15pm and this was the end of the symposium.
