Report of the Chess Club 2018-2019
As few years have passed since the Chess Club, Pachhunga University College came into being, the exact date of its establishment cannot be known. But, fortunately, thanks to the efforts of our respected Principal Dr. Tawnenga, and other concerned people, the Chess Club was reopened for the academic session 2018-2019.
As mentioned before, the Chess Club has been closed for a long period and on 5th September 2018, the club was reinstated under the guidance of our Students’ Union
Leaders. These are the names of our Office Bearer during 2018-2019 Session:

Besides these, Dr. Lalhriatzuala, Dept. of Physics was appointed the Teacher in-charge of our Club and H. Lalrintluangi, Common Room Secretary Students’ Union Leaders PUC was also in-charge from the Students’ Union Leaders. Six students were appointed as Executive Committee members and three Advisors were placed for the Club, namely Lawrence Lalhlanthara, VI Sem. Dept. of Pol Sc., H. Lalthazuala, VI Sem. Dept. of Commerce and Herbert Lalruatfela, VI Sem. Dept of Statistics.
As already mentioned, the Club is still young and many efforts were made to make it larger. Improvements cannot made at a fast rate but luckily with the favour of our Students’ Union Leaders, on January 2019 during Beat Contest, the Club was allowed to open a stall to sell things to students in need during the function. We are tremendously thankful to our Students’ Union Leaders and the members who volunteered for this function. The money raised at this function was used for hiring a Coach and for making Club T-Shirt .
The Club’s Executive Committee was held 5 times and under the guidance of Mr. BT Romawia who is Mizoram Chess Association Senior Coach, and Chess Coaching Class were held for all the students of Pachhunga University College.
The Club is determined to achieve great performance in chess from all the Students to make their brain faster and healthier so that their learning becomes much easier and also to let them know that they can achieve something great from this Club, like participating in the Mizoram University Annual Sports Meet and even beyond that. But as we know, life does not go the way we want and much development cannot be made during a short period, we managed to hold 4th position in the Mizoram University Annual Sports Meet 2019. But still we are thankful to the players and our Coach for their efforts as losing without giving up only makes us stronger.
The Motto of our Club is ‘Look For A Better One’, and the Club itself is affiliated tothe Mizoram Chess Association. The total number of members of the Club during the Academic Session of 2018-2019 was 213.
