Prestigious fellowship for Pachhunga University College Assistant Professor
Dr. Prashant Kumar Singh, Assistant Professor from the Department of Biotechnology, Pachhunga University College (A Constituent College of Mizoram University), Aizawl, has received a special fellowship from the Government of India for undertaking research at the Agriculture Research Organization, Israel.
Dr. Singh was awarded by the SERB International Research Experience (SIRE) fellowship by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), a statutory body under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government India. This fellowship is awarded to very few scientists in India who are working in high-demanding research areas.
Unfortunately, tomato prices hike in the summer season in India, which makes it beyond everyone’s pocket due to the reduced crop yield. Dr.Prashant Kumar Singh will perform his research on the reprogramming of tomato plant memory to enhance tomato productivity in all climatic conditions. Dr Singh will be doing his research at the Agriculture Research Organization and Weizman Institute of Science, Israel, with Dr Michal Lieberman Lazarovich. He will spend six months formulating new varieties of climate-smart tomatoes for the farmers.
