Faculty profile - adequacy and competency of faculty

The faculty was introduced in 1973 as separate faculty. It acquired permanent affiliation to the university in 1979. At present the faculty consists of 6 Assistant Professors and 1 Associate Professor.  3 have obtained PhD and 4 have qualified NET. The academic condition in terms of quality of faculty and learning transfer process is healthy and adequate.

Student profile – entry level competencies, socioeconomic status, language proficiency etc.

Students are admitted strictly on merit (80%) and interview (20%). Students come from both urban and rural backgrounds, from low and middle income group. Students are mostly proficient in the regional language. They also have workable knowledge of English. However, a large fraction come from remote areas and is generally weak at the basic level. The subject is preferred equally by both the genders and the number is quite balanced.


  • At present there are 7 teachers. They are adequate and competent. 6 are with Ph.D.; 5 are NET qualified. There are 1 Junior Lab. Assistant and 2 Lab Attendants.
  • Students are selected for admission on the basis of their Higher Secondary result. Many students come from remote villages. At the entry level they are generally not fluent in the language but they improve during the 3 years study.
  • 4 Faculty members are currently engage with Research Projects: 3 (UGC, Minor) and 1 (UGC, Major).
  • Faculty members has presented a number of Research Papers in academic seminars and workshops in India and Abroad.
  • There are 1 classroom for honours and 3 laboratories. The laboratories are well equipped for the curriculum of under graduate practicals. Presentation with LCD projector is use for teaching and for student’s seminars.
  • The faculty is regularly involved in setting questions, moderation, and evaluation of the university examination.
  • Syllabus (Choice Based Credit and Grading System) was introduced in 2016. The faculty members were involved in the process as a member of BOS and School Board.
  • During the past 2 years, the pass percentage is 52%. The dropout rate is about 40%.
  • Students’ field trip along with Student exchange programis an integral part for completion of the course.
  • Seminar and project works are assigned to students.
  • Students are divided into groups and are assigned to each faculty member to assess their academic progress and problems. Seminars are conducted for students.
  • The faculty gives counseling, and conduct special classes from time to time.
